The 55th Pacific Islands Forum marks the emerald anniversary of our shared regional journey and invites us to reflect on what it means to build economies that are rooted in our traditions and culture, in our peoples and our Blue Pacific home, and in how our actions — or lack thereof — today build a stronger, healthier and safer tomorrow.

The theme “B.E.L.A.U. - Building Economies: Life. Action. Unity.” draws inspiration from Palau’s traditional name “Belau” and the heritage, identity, and values that anchor our nation and the wider Pacific family. This theme speaks to the work we have undertaken together over the past 55 years, and to the future we are shaping as a community of Big Ocean States: one in which our peoples thrive, our cultures remain vibrant, and our economies are resilient and innovative.

“Life” affirms that people are at the heart of all we do: individuals, families, communities, and the generations yet to come. It calls for investing in quality education, health, housing, social protection, and food security so that Pacific peoples can live with dignity, security, and opportunity. When human well-being is strengthened and our cultures and languages are celebrated, and our children receive the education and knowledge they need, our communities are better able to participate in and drive sustainable economic activity, grounded in a strong sense of purpose, belonging, and stewardship.

“Action” is a call to do. We all know that aspirations without action mean nothing. Our hopes and dreams for tomorrow must be matched by the courage to make tough decisions in the face of adversity, censure, and even ire. It challenges the Forum family to move from words to implementation through policy reforms, climate and ocean action, resilient infrastructure, digital connectivity, support for micro, small and medium enterprises, and investments in skills and innovation. By taking strategic, coordinated action at local, national, regional, and international levels, Pacific countries can unlock new opportunities, reduce vulnerabilities, and build economies that are agile in the face of crises and global shocks.

“Unity” captures the strength of the Pacific Islands Forum as a family of nations and territories working together with one voice. It calls for deeper partnerships among governments, traditional leaders, private sector, civil society, women and youth, and our development partners, grounded in mutual respect and collective responsibility. Through unity of purpose and solidarity across our Blue Pacific continent, we can better confront shared challenges — from climate change and biodiversity loss to debt distress, inequality, and insecurity — while ensuring that we all move forward and upward.

Together, Life, Action, and Unity form a single, reinforcing pathway for the Pacific’s future: people at the center, values in motion, and partners standing together. When we invest in the well-being and potential of our peoples, match our ambitions with concrete implementation, and act in solidarity as a Blue Pacific continent, we strengthen our collective ability to Build Economies that are resilient, sustainable, and anchored in our cultures and our ocean. Guided by B.E.L.A.U., the 55th Pacific Islands Forum and related meetings will focus on turning this shared vision into real outcomes that protect our home, expand opportunity, and ensure that prosperity reaches every community in our region, and beyond.

The logo for the 55th Pacific Islands Forum reflects the theme “B.E.L.A.U. – Building Economies: Life. Action. Unity.” The intertwining blue waves invite us to reflect on the ocean that unites us and lies at the core of our identity as a Pacific Blue Continent. Within these waves, the fish tails represent the life that has sustained our people for centuries and continues to support our lives and livelihoods today — and that we are called to manage and protect. The movement of the ocean, and the life within it, is a call to action. Our ancestors understood that to feed their families they had to work, and make hard choices; the one thing they could not do was nothing.

From their ancient actions grew the economies of our islands, symbolized by the Palauan money piece at the center of the waves. For a millenia, our oceans were the highways of bartering and trade and they continue to connect the economies we share today and seek to strengthen at this 55th Pacific Islands Forum, with our partners and friends from across the region and beyond. Finally, as proud hosts of this year’s Forum, the blue and yellow in the logo honor the flag of Palau, which today flies brightly besides those of our fellow Forum family.
